Festival map of india |
It’s one country, or different states,
Where have you
landed, Gulliver mate!!!
As I move up, as
there is no down,
Food, language, festivals
changes, without change of crown…
It seems some dream,
but the reality does screams,
Must is a land of
god, I mean…
And I see no harm,
naming it ‘land of festivals and cuisine’,
And here definitely
joy reigns…..
Wondering…, where Mr. Gulliver’s ship crashed this time,
or is it land of fiction
(at least Gulliver is character of fiction) or is it land of God!!? This land
is no work of fiction but is a land of god and land of wonders (even it keep
surprising people living in that land). Gulliver wouldn’t have been this much in
dilemma, if he would had care once to read report of 1498 of vasco Da Gama
(might not read as Portuguese and Englishmen are counterparts in sea) or even
of any English traveller who travelled to this land they called ‘India’. And
one who has known India would definitely say “10 points to gryffindor” for
Gulliver naming India as land of festivals and cuisine. Now for those who are
unaware (even those unaware can also read, might find something new), if you
have read definition that ‘festivals are typically a period of joy and
celebration (be it religious and national) and cuisines are a way to win hearts
(Dil ka raashta pet se hokar jaata hai), then believe me Indians are always
joyous and they have many dishes (I mean uncountable, even utterly-butterly
delicious) to reign hearts.
Now, if you venture (probably to know more) with
Gulliver, you are in south India (beware before stepping, you will be full of
taste and culture) with its crispy dosa (whether plain or masala), and idlis
(be with chutney or sambar)soft as new born’s cheeks, uthapam with its variety
of toppings (kerala’s pride), biryani from Hyderabad (a taste with its own
taste), paniyaram fried with love (don’t mistake it with idli), long idiyappa
(their own noodles), mysoree pak ( for dessert) and many other extravaganza’s
welcoming you, not failing to tickle your every tastebuds (even while writing
my mouth is watering)… and… and… and to garnish it, multitude of festivals. In
one place you will be welcomed ‘Wannakam, Please enjoy our harvest festival
Pongal while eating Pongala as we feed our cow’, another will race you on boats
and show you the majestic beast of the jungle, ‘the elephant’ decorated like a
new bride, know it as Onam (another harvest festival), might be wondering when
comes this land’s new year, know it by celebrating Ugadi also known as Gudi
Padwa by people in middle of this land. Now if you dare to move forward to the
land of valours, you will be encountering Lord Ganesha coming to homes, you
might get to eat modak, this is Ganesh Chaturthi. You will also encounter
people who while travelling carry one bag full of sweetness and spiciness, be
it bhakarwadi, khandava, dhokla, thepla and many others that days will end but
names of food won’t (all in one area) and they also have their kite festival
(sky full of kites) for you to enjoy those delecacies. Hey, don’t get tired of
eating and enjoying you still have litti, dal bati, Momos (favourite snack of
every), Thukpa, Dalma and not to forget Ragulla of Ragulla like people with
their different fish cooking style. They too will welcome you to sleep in bhela
ghar during Bihu, eat thekua during chhath, to be ascetic during kumbh and to
pull Rath in Rath yatra. This is not all, they have surprises too. Basically,
every place in india has their own harvest festivals as they love to thank god
for the grains so they can make delicacies. But they have religious ones too(
those above are regional), they will paly with colours with you in Holi
forgetting anmity, or they will hug you during id and serve sewaiyan to you
signifying their love for you, they will light diyas being positive in darkest
hour asking you to do good karma and will always keep you joyous and reign your
heart.

are being labelled antique as people are moving towards more easy life and
copying west more and more. These festivals and food binds us, this
gives rise to good moral values, supporting us to live together and peacefully.
When lunch boxes opens in a school, different tastes are experienced and
different holidays are being talked with the festivals enjoyed. Today Indians
feel proud when they hear their country be recognized for its festivals and
food. So we should move to our own festival and cuisine. We do can enjoy
